FAQ

Are you in a sorority?

No, Georgetown University does not have a Greek system.  While I’m not adamantly opposed to sororities, I am glad that I did not have to make the decision of whether or not to join.  I don’t think that it is for me.

Do you shop at places like Target?

YES!  I love Target.  There are some things that should be investments (wardrobe-wise), but a lot of things can be bought for a fraction of the cost.  I am in love with white t-shirts from Target.  I get four or five just for the summer!

Where can I find the perfect pair of riding boots?

I have a brown pair by Tory Burch and a black pair from Banana Republic.  Nordstrom and Piperlime.com have the best selection.  Both offer different price ranges!

How did you get started in crew?

I started crew the summer after my freshman year of high school.  I rowed for a little of a year and eventually switched to coxing!  I cox for the men’s heavyweight squad and absolutely LOVE it!!!

Where are your watches from?

I have an absolute weakness for watches.  My favorite watches are by Anne Klein.  They’re very very very nice, but not too pricey!  I also love my Michael Kors watch.

Where should I buy….?

  • Tights: Target, J. Crew, Urban Outfitters
  • Leggings: Ann Taylor Loft, Nordstrom, Gap
  • Tote bags: Vineyard Vines, Vera Bradley, Lilly, LL Bean

What is your favorite handbag?

LONGCHAMP!  (And, of course, Kate Spade)

What’s your major?

I’m a marketing major!  I’d LOVE to work in Manhattan, possibly in advertising or public relations!

Where is your “Live Your Dreams” cuff bracelet from?

Sydney Buchanan!

I want to start a blog.  How should I start?

Dive right in!

Figure out which platform you want to work with.  Tumblr is definitely easier, but you can’t really create a unique identity.  Many tumblrs end up looking exactly the same (e.g. Lilly background, thousands of reblogged posts, no actual words, etc).  You can also gain followers quite quickly.

Blogger/Wordpress/etc. takes a LOT more time and focus and energy.  But I find it much much much more rewarding.

Start with a basic plan or idea of what you want to do, but go forward with the knowledge that you will eventually have to be flexible.  If things aren’t really working out, you may want to change course a smidge.  Try to find a topic that is not so broad that you don’t have focus, but also not too narrow where there is not a lot of room for growth.

Also, put a LOT of thought into your name.  Be original (i.e. don’t name your blog XYZ Prep and call yourself the XYZ Prepster…… and for the haters, I can personally guarantee you that two years ago there was no one with a twitter/blog called “_________ prepster”.)

Once you have a general idea, work on building a clean, attractive blog.  You definitely don’t need to hire anyone (at least in the beginning) to design it.  Blogger easily allows you to customize it yourself.

Lastly, I’ll leave you with tips to gain readership and followers.  Post often!!!!!!!!!!  (And be original in the posts!)  Also, follow similar blogs/blogs you like and comment frequently!  Don’t explicitly say in the comment “Hey look at my blog!!!!!!!!!!” (it’s annoying), but if you comment on a few posts, the author will definitely be interested in checking out yours!!!

This should be able to get you started :)

How did you decide on Georgetown?  What appealed to you about the school?

I don’t know if there was any one thing that stood out… I toured a bunch of schools and actually liked a lot of them.  What was different about Georgetown was that I could actually PICTURE myself attending.  Other schools I imagined what it would be like if I went there, but I had a clear clear clear picture of me at Georgetown.  I can only really compare it to how people describe finding their wedding dress/husband… I knew it was THE ONE.

I’m also going to add that there have definitely been times that I think, “Hmm maybe I should have applied to other schools…” [I only applied to Georgetown and UF] or “Uhh I don’t think this is the right fit.”  But after two and a half years here, I’m finally realizing that this is the PERFECT place for me.

I sometimes have the desire to pick up and attend art/design/fashion/etc school, but then I remember that I don’t need to be in a school to be creative.
