anchoredstate asked: *time sensitive* Hi Carly! Due to health problems I have to push back graduation from 2014 to 2016 (yikes!), but I need to retain full-time status for financial aid reasons. This means I have to tack on another major before August 10th. I'm torn between Marketing and PR. Since you studied Marketing, I was wondering if you could tell me the pros and cons of choosing that major. Thanks! xoxo

Well… I can’t really say 100%. I think it differs greatly from university to university, especially when you add in specific concentrations. You could major in marketing with a concentration in international marketing which would be extremely different from a concentration in, say, brand management. There’s a lot of overlap, of course, but you would definitely get different experiences at least in the classroom.

I think it’s important to consider where you want to be in 2016. For me, my major didn’t really have ANY say in what job I got. (Seriously, no real résumé or even GPA calculation was discussed.) But…. your major could really help you get certain internships which, of course, might lead to jobs.

That was longwinded and probably didn’t answer your question exactly… but at the end of the day, it’s a personal decision and one that should be weighted based on your current university and your future career ambitions.
